My Review Okay, just let me fangirl for a moment. ARIEL BLOOMER WROTE A BOOK!!!!! I'm a big fan of Icon For Hire and every once in a while I'll watch Ariel's youtube channel, the REL Show. When she announced she was releasing her book soon, I preordered so fast I almost gave myself whip lash. I myself have suffered from mental illness and Icon For Hire's music helped me during the hardest time of my life. What about the book? Oh honey it's amazing. I read it and was blown away. Not only did I get an insight to my Ariel Bloomer's life, but there is real self-help gold in there. Now, I'm typically skeptical of self-help books, I've read my share of them...but Turn Your Pain Into Art is a self-help alternative, it's not boring. And it's definitely worth your time. Basic Summary
Set in a fictional galaxy, two characters born as enemies have to combine forces to put a stop to the ultimate evil. (Basically a really amazing, hyped up, Romeo and Juliet) In-Depth Summary Cyra Noavek and Akos Kereseth have grown up in enemy countries locked in a long-standing fight for dominance over their shared planet. When Akos and his brother are kidnapped by the ruling Noavek family, Akos is forced to serve Cyra, the sister of a dictator who governs with violence and fear. Cyra is known for her deadly power of transferring extraordinary pain unto others with simple touch, and her tyrant brother uses her as a weapon against those who challenge him. But as Akos fights for his own survival, he recognizes that Cyra is also fighting for hers, and that her true gift—resilience—might be what saves them both. When Akos and Cyra are caught in the middle of a raging rebellion, everything they’ve been led to believe about their world and themselves must be called into question. But fighting for what’s right might mean betraying their countries, their families, and each other. When the time comes, will they choose loyalty or love? My Review I was so excited to finally be able to read another book by Veronica Roth and she did NOT let me down. Honestly I feel that Veronica's writing has grown so much since Divergent. I COULD NOT PUT THIS BOOK DOWN!!!! It was so good. I love the way she wrote it, including each character's insecurities and fears. She just brought the world she created to life in the pages of Carve The Mark. Overall Rating: 9/10 https://www.amazon.com/Carve-Mark-Veronica-Roth/dp/0062348639 Basic Summary:
Counter culture is a Christian book calling for radical change in the life of the followers of Christ. It covers (controversial) topics like homosexuality, abortion, and divorce; individually viewing these topics from a Biblical perspective. In-Depth Summary: Ask a group of Christians what they think about poverty, sex trafficking, or the orphan crisis, and you'll probably get a pretty quick response. But ask that same group about gay marriage or abortion, and you'll most likely be faced with a lot of nervous hesitancy or fuzzy answers. In this day when social issues are creating clear dividing lines in society, moral and political neutrality is not an option for those who believe the gospel. It's simply not enough to focus on only those issues that are most comfortable--and least costly--to us. Join David Platt as he invites us to fix our gaze on the holiness, goodness, love, truth, justice, authority, and mercy of God revealed in the gospel and to live with conviction, courage, and compassion in the midst of a culture that is drifting further from the truth every day. My Review: It's very well written, and definitely changed my opinion about quite a few topics, and opened my eyes about social issues around the world. I personally loved it. It just took me a while to read. Each chapter is packed with information that is strung together quite neatly with personal stories from the author, however, I did find myself falling asleep a few times. In all honesty, I think it's great, but best digested a little bit at a time, so you don't get overwhelmed.
